"blue anymore”

this group of songs - old pals. i believe none were written within the last 10 yrs. this summer they all came back, lyrics and all (or at least as i remember them now).

i recorded the vocal & guitar in my back yard on a stereo cassette recorder, battery powered. dogs bark, cars growl, birds a’chirp, & weeds get whacked.

then overdubbed bgvs + bass, & gave a whirl to making it work with all the extracurricular noises of summer. can’t really picture it without it.

“tangle’s way”

in the category of “it never fails, but i seem to keep forgetting” —-> (organ + drum(machine)).

this group… i filled a tape with organ, drum machine, bass, noises. it sat like that for a while. months later i attempted to write words & melodies to them.

i rarely ever write a song on guitar, though i try. but organ & drum machine… ppphh, good times.

“guess bed”

i bought a guitar from benny. it had an intriguing plunk! we sat together, briefly. very! i suppose i try to record something with any instrument before it has to go. ‘least something for a quick memory jog. i recorded the bare guitar pieces while camping (to a roland sp404), back in ‘22 or so. one day this year, i found the tracks a few sub-folders deep in a dropbox.

in a flash of true audio professionalism, i plugged a dongle into my phone & sent it into the future, through whatever tangles i’d created that day. those old rubber ditties excited modern events and were made anew!

then seth put strings on them (i think it was the day before he had to leave for a long tour). i’m thankful for my friends’ willingness & time.. (they know that a lot of times my bursts dead end).

in a pretty clear way, this one changed my process forever, for now. all these sub-folder’d blips of wonder… whack-a-mole’d by next quests are popping up. fully mobile spilled treats.
